Men let’s be honest, having man boobs can be embarrassing!

            The chest is a common area for men to store fat thus creating, “man boobs.” At our 24HR gym in Surrey, BC our Flex Fitness personal trainers want to share with you how to turn your undefined poorly developed pecs into muscle and lose the fat once and for all!

Overweight or Hormonal Problem?

Firstly, we need to recognize the reason for the fat surrounding your pectoral muscles. Is this an overweight issue or a hormonal problem called gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia: “is an enlargement or swelling of breast tissue in males. It is most commonly caused by male estrogen levels that are too high or are out of balance with testosterone levels.”

How Can You Tell the Difference?

If you are overweight,

  • Your chest should feel soft
  • Your diet is poor
  • You also carry access fat in other parts of your body
  • Can happen at anytime in your life

If you think you could have Gynecomastia,

  • Your chest should feel firm
  • This is hormonally driven
  • Usually develops during your teenage years or when older men go through andropause
  • Nipples can be enlarged

(If you think you may have Gynecomastia, you need to seek a physician. Gynecomastia remedy usually requires pectoral surgery).

Nutrition

Now, if you realize that this is just an overweight issue, we need to first prioritize your eating.

DIET IS KEY!

Our personal trainers at Flex Fitness are starting to sound like broken records but they are absolutely right! Your diet is #1 when it comes to any sort of fat loss you are trying to achieve. There is simply no other way to burn the fat off your chest, if your diet and nutrition suck! You can do all the chest workouts you want but if your diet is not on a good diet plan you will not lose the fat surrounding your chest.

This topic could be a whole other blog but what we will say here at Flex is that,

“a good diet plan is a plan that you can stick with for the long haul!”

The diet fads you see now a days will not help you in the long run. Imagine living the rest of your life having absolutely no carbs (fad)… That’s a bit extreme but most of these fads are just that, extreme and temporary. Plus, they do you no good! You will not only gain the weight back after a month but sometimes you can put on even more weight! Chest Exercises

Please note: Performing chest exercises will not make your chest look bigger!

                Many men fear that working out their chest will make their already big chest even bigger. This is not the case AT ALL! When it comes to your pectoral muscle the tissue is denser than the fat tissue. This means that the fat tissue takes up more space then the muscle tissue.

 Having a more developed chest in this case will make your chest look smaller!

                Lastly, when exercising your back because of the separate nerve innervation between your upper and lower chest you want to exercise your chest from all different angles.  Furthermore, due to the incomplete muscle fibers that don’t completely span across your chest muscles you are able to engage more fibers by using different chest exercises! In addition, remember that your chest has 3 separate sections! We know that this a lot of information!
